8-Week Pottery Wheel Classes
Learn the foundations of throwing on the pottery wheel in a fun, supportive studio. You’ll practice wedging, centering, pulling walls, and shaping cylinders, bowls, and cups, then refine forms with trimming and finish with basic glazing.
Each class begins with a demo on the wheel and then I’ll provide individual help and instruction.
You are welcome to do handbuilding during these classes – whether you’re building on your wheel creations or focusing solely on handbuilding.
Classes include studio tools, glazes, firings, and a 25-lb bag of stoneware (additional clay available).
What is throwing pottery on the wheel?
Wheel throwing is the process of shaping clay on a rotating wheel to create functional forms—think bowls, cups, and vases. You’ll learn the core steps: wedging (preparing the clay), centering (aligning it on the wheel), opening and pulling walls (building height and shape), then trimming to refine the foot. In later weeks, you’ll explore simple surface techniques and glazing. It’s hands-on, a little messy, and incredibly satisfying as the clay responds to your touch.
We look forward to welcoming you at our pottery studio located in the heart of Montgomery County’s Agricultural Reserve!
